Muktinath, one of the sacred religious sites in Nepal lies in Mustang district, about 22 kilometers from the districts headquarter Jomsom, Muktinath is a revered pilgrimage site for many Hindu pilgrims from both Nepal and India. Lying at the base of Thorang La pass, Muktinath marks the start of Mustang for the Annapurna circuit trekkers. Also known as Mukti-kshetra which in common terms refers to “Place of liberation”.
Just below the Muktinath temple lies the village of Ranipauwa, which roughly means base camp and has plenty of good hotels. Jeeps, four-wheelers are available from Ranipauwa to Jomsom.
