We head out of Kathmandu early morning – the lush green valley that extends till far away is a welcome change from Kathmandu’s hustle and bustle. Enjoy the scenic route as we pass through the gentle hills, the meandering highway, and the occasional settlement - a beautiful glimpse into Nepal’s culture. Soon, we are joined by the gushing Trishuli – the river we will be rafting upon after some time.

We will soon arrive at Charuda/Malinga, after a small ‘safety briefing’ we are all set to begin our day’s adventure. We will strap on our helmet, our life-jacket, collect our oar, and get aboard the waiting raft. The ride will be calm initially, occasionally picking up speed as per the drift of the water. A few bumpy rapids offer a wonderful trailer of the adventure. Soon enough, you will hear the instructor asking you to brace yourselves. We will listen to his instructions, paddling as he commands, as we tackle the increasing rapids. Each rapid you cross is going to be an exhilarating experience.

We will stop for some lunch along the riverside beach. Drying ourselves for a while, we again hop in our rafts – gentle at times and bumpy another.

The first day’s rafting experience takes us through Class 2 and 3 rapids, Ladies Delight, Upset, Surprise, Bijili, and Tea Pot – to name some of the major ones.

Overnight: Hotel.

We have breakfast at Motel Du Mugling and continue downstream after a short briefing. Another adventurous ride awaits us as we tackle new levels of rapids (Class 4) while following the course of the river. We also notice the gorge has deepened, which adds more thrill to our adventure. Today’s rafting trip also adds a cultural element – we will pass through Magar settlements, and can learn about their life and culture. We may also make a brief stop to know the community better, and take a few pictures.

We arrive at Gaighat, the confluence of Trishuli and Kali Gandaki, and our rafting trip comes to an end. From Gaighat, we head to Bandipur via road.

Bandipur: Bandipur is a quaint, little picturesque town perched atop a hill. Originally a Magar settlement, Newa: traders from Bhaktapur settled down here and brought along with them their culture and architecture – which till date remains. A main street, paved in traditional stones, till date houses traditional Nepali homes on both sides. The street is fascinating to walk upon, and we will do just that. Bandipur also allows a magnificent view of Mt. Manaslu and the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Range.

Overnight: Hotel, Bandipur

After a leisurely breakfast, we get back on the highway to head home. After crossing Mugling, we will be joined by the Trishuli River, the same stretch we rafted upon on the first day of our adventure. Watch the river pass, and remember the fun you had while tackling the river - our only worry would be if ‘we have instilled an addiction for white water river rafting within you’.
